This is where it all begins. On opening day of the Oktoberfest, at 12 noon, the Lord Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, will ceremoniously tap the first keg and call out “O’zapft is!” Then 12 guns will salute the official beginning of the Wiesn and every tent can begin tapping their kegs.
Many government officials will be in attendance on opening day, including the Bavarian Prime Minister who receives the first Maβ.

Staying true to tradition, the tent, which is constructed in the style of a large farmhouse, has been run by the Schottenhamel family since its inception in 1867.
This tent is a favorite among Munich’s youth as well as local celebrities and socialites.
